Thank you!

So Iā€™ve been around the block a time or two; I want the best fit for my body, a pleasant smell, smooth yet hard ā€“ doesnā€™t spray all over the place, doesnā€™t stain. Iā€™m okay with being left wet as long as itā€™s not a sticky, stinky residue. Everyone with me? Iā€™m going to delve into the world of deodorants.

I hadnā€™t really put too much thought into deodorant or antiperspirant in my earlier years ā€“ it was a very necessary evil and I used whatever was on hand and swayed towards sticks that kept me dry and smelling good. Little did I know that my world was going to change when I actually did some research and realized I was slopping chemicals under my arms and swoobs (sweaty boobs).

Why Go Natural?

In the last five or so years Iā€™ve made a concerted effort to not only try to be more green but more cognizent of what I put in or on my body. I think having kids started that ball rolling but the more I looked in to things I knew it was much larger and was something that I needed to be on top of, for myself, for my family and hey hopefully you will take something out of this.

The worry I carry involves research revolving around an array of chemicals; mainly aluminum, parabens, triclosan, and fragrance (phthalates) that have been linked to concerns of carcinogens; having the potential to cause cancer and the fact that they are ā€œestrogenicā€ chemicals, meaning they interact with your bodyā€™s hormones or cells in a way similar to estrogen.

So the research currently sits at inconclusive and itā€™s been stated that there is no reason for consumers to be concerned about the use of cosmetics containing these chemicals. However, my personal opinion is that the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Time and time again over the years we have seen this happen, especially in the medical world and itā€™s something I would rather be safer than sorry with.

Now that Iā€™ve set the stage, letā€™s talk a little bit about my body chemistry. I remember being in gym class in elementary school and being soaked with sweat ā€“ like hair drenched, sweaty and wondering why everyone else was not like that. Maybe I was just running harder? Nah, probably notā€¦but I remember very clearly realizing I was different. Now add hormonal changes with having children and we all know thatā€™s a sweaty mess. I was researched enough to know I wanted a natural deodorant but letā€™s just say they are not all created equal. It goes without saying; we are not all the same. What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa. With that stated I want to talk about what deodorants I have tried and finally the goldilocks deodorant I use today.

The Road of Trial and Error $$$

Green Beaver: I found it very oily feeling and needed application very often. I wouldnā€™t buy it again;

Tom’s: I found this very similar to Green Beaver, oily like you need to air your armpits before putting on clothes. I wouldnā€™t buy it again;

Jason: Again, that same oily formula that just seems weak to me and doesnā€™t keep the smell fresh. At this point I was worried this was just what natural deodorant was and I was feeling very discouraged;

Dr. Mist: I actually thought I liked this one as I purchased more than one bottle. But alas it could not stand up to the hormonal fluctuations of post-partum so it was time to move on to the next;

PiperWai: Rave reviews with this one so I bit the bullet and bought it. It seemed to hold up reasonably well and Iā€™ve heard the jar is even better (I have not tried the jar, only the stick). My complaint is the smell ā€“ I find it strong and I prefer a more subtle smell. It would be my second place choice;

Lush Aromaco Deodorant: I love witch hazel so I was excited to try this one. Itā€™s a little odd with applying with a bar but it goes on smooth, like I prefer, but in the end didnā€™t hold up;

And now my goldilocks; Native: I use the coconut and vanilla stick and it smells extremely pleasing. It goes on without an oily residue and works for me. It checks all my boxes and I am currently subscribed and get a new stick in the mail every three months.

Check them out here: https://www.nativecos.com for yourself and if you feel inclined to purchase you can use my referral link: https://refer.nativecos.com/x/lO7t9Y and we will both get a free mini size deodorant.

Thank you for reading!

Was this useful for you? What is your goldilocks?

    Omg thank you for this! I have been looking for alternatives and solution without breaking the bank. I recently been using an Arm & Hammer deodorant, but it feels sticky. I’m gonna give Naitive a go. Good read!

      Awesome! I hope you love it as much as I do. It’s extremely frustrating spending any money on products that don’t work for you. Thank you!

    I’ve actually been using the Lush deodorant bar ever since I found out about it and I really like it a lot. I’ll pair it with a spritz of my body mist and try to fly like an eagle to dry down, and I find it works wonders. I’m not one to smell a lot when I’m at work, so it’s perfect for day to day usage. If I’m going somewhere I know I’ll sweat a lot, or on a particularily hot day, I’ll just use a good old pharmacy deodorant. Still looking for something that will hold my smelly sweat. Because BOY do I smell when I sweat. I might just try that Native one!

      Thank you for reading! Yes, they all have such different textures and I’m very finicky with feeling wet/sticky. Glad this helped šŸ™‚

    Thank you so much for sharing your honest reviews! It can be so hard to fjnd a good natural deodorant. I love the Routine baking soda free options personally. But, like you, it took some trial and error to get there! Now I have more ideas if I need them, yay!

      Good to know, I hadn’t even heard of that! I’ll keep it in mind.
      I’m glad it was helpful! Thank you āœŒļø

    That’s a bummer that d’lush when it didn’t hold up, I was going to try that one. And it sounds like you and I are similar in that respect. It might be worth a try but I’d hate to think I spend that much to have the same results! There’s a local woman in Detroit who makes her own beauty products like that because when she noticed that her son was starting to sweat more when he was hitting puberty she’s started worrying about the same in pure products and what her son would be using everyday so she created her own line. It’s called natural red. I haven’t used the deodorant yet but her sugar scrub, stick lotion, chapstick, and hair detangling spray are all amazing!

      The great thing about Lush is they will give you a sample to try. I would recommend that if you wanted to try it out. Thanks for reading šŸ˜Š
